Quilting with Rulers - Class Review and Discount Code

Greetings Fellow Quilters & Welcome!

Continuing with my Quilting Classes -- Class Review Series
I recently finished this Online Class
"Quilting with Rulers & Templates on a Home Machine"
by Amy Johnson
You may know Amy from her blog - Amy's Free Motion Quilting Adventures

Amy shares a wealth of information on her blog so if you're looking to expand your understanding of Free Motion Quilting you may want to add Amy's blog to your stop.

Now Let's Talk Class Review!!

Some History:

Ya'll know I've been working with acrylic templates on my home machine for a year or so...

I fell in love with
"The QP Curved Templates"
designed by Linda Hrcka of
The Quilted Pineapple
when she blogged about them early in 2015.
Linda is an award winning, professional long arm quilter and I wear a "I wanna quilt like Linda" sign on my forehead every day!!

So....
I jumped right into using
The QP Curve templates
on my home machine,
finished "Chevron with a Twist" for
the Moda Bake Shop with them,
and
continue to use and enjoy them every day.

I even published a few very beginner YouTube videos highlighting how to use them:

Using rulers and templates on a domestic machine is a natural progression once you've leaped into Free Motion Quilting at home.

Straight and curved templates open a WORLD of options for FMQ designs on your quilts.
Home Machine Quilted: Simply Spring Fleur - Redbird Quilt Co 2016
With this in mind, the quilting world is crazy about Acrylic Rulers and Templates and anxious to learn how to use them.

Amy's Class is a perfect way to go from basics to borders with Acrylic Rulers and Templates.

Although Amy's class is demonstrated on a home machine, many of the tips and designs she shares in the class apply to sit down and long arm machines as well.

Let's review the content...
This is a great line-up of Lessons....

It's everything you need to get started
and then some!

I especially LOVE that Amy talks "process".
In my opinion,
no class is complete without it.
In the very first lesson she covers the following Key Elements:
Foot
Motion
Rulers
Details... details...details -- I love them!

Amy starts with Ruler Foot options,
jumps into how to position
your hands and templates
AND
shares details on a variety
of templates and rulers.

In subsequent lessons
Amy discusses and stitches
Straight line designs

Curved designs

and shares how to integrate
Free Motion Quilting with Ruler designs...

But even more helpful....

Border designs with Rulers...!!!

This Lesson is FULL of
great information and images.
And on the Craftsy platform you can
repeat lessons over and over again!!

Greetings Fellow Quilters ~ Welcome!

Continuing with my Quilting Classes -- Class Review Series
I recently finished this Free Online Class
"Creative Quilt Backs"
with Elizabeth Hartman
Image w/ revisions Courtesy Craftsy
*
Oh My!
Elizabeth is a girl after my own heart.
*
Her approach to preparing a Creative Quilt Back not only feeds the artful side of my brain it also feeds the process oriented side.
*
I've spent the last 35 years as a programmer so logic is meaningful to me.
Elizabeth is very logical...
but...
You should SEE the creations that come out of this logical designer's brain!

Beautiful and Creative

Ok - on with the Lessons and my feedback for each one.

Lesson 1:  Welcome
This lesson shares information about how to use your Craftsy Class and the Craftsy Class Guarantee...
Good information to know.

Lesson 2:  Introduction
Here's where you get to know Elizabeth Hartman, learn about her amazing designs and her latest adventure designing fabric for Robert Kaufman - talented woman, beautiful fabric!
Rhoda Ruth by Elizabeth Hartman for Robert Kaufman

 Lesson 3: Quilt Back Math
This is the amazing part for me... It's all process oriented.

Elizabeth takes you through laying-out and calculating how much fabric you'll need for your quilt back.  She discusses different width fabrics and different backing layouts.
She also discusses sizes of quilt batting & backing compared to the quilt top size.

This information is very useful for a domestic machine quilter.

Elizabeth shares the "why" -- love that !

Her lessons take the guesswork out of preparing your quilt back -- it's so straight forward!

Great information to bookmark for the future!

Lesson 4: Using Large-Scale Prints
HERE is where the creative side of the brain kicks in...

Elizabeth talks about integrating large scale prints into the quilt back -- you know those prints you don't want to cut to pieces... a fantastic way to use them to pop a quilt back.

Love this lesson!

Lesson 5: Adding a Pieced Strip
Running just short of fabric for your quilt back?

Elizabeth will help you add a little flair to your quilt back and avoid having to purchase more fabric!
She helps with design decisions and calculations.
Great information and approach for any quilter.

Lesson 6: Back Block
Leftover blocks from your quilt top?

Elizabeth will show you how to integrate your extras into the quilt back.  She discusses layout and calculations to take advantage of those complementary quilt blocks...

Lesson 7: Super Scrappy
OK - This lesson gives you amazing insight into the eye of a master designer.

Elizabeth shares her thought process as she works through a super scrappy quilt back.
**
I just LOVED this lesson too!
