Chevron with a Twist Celebration!

Greetings everyone!! I've been hiding out behind the scenes lately and I'm so excited to show you why. 

I'm thrilled to celebrate another
Moda Bake Shop recipe with you...
Do you remember the Heart's Content Decorative Pillow I created for the Bake Shop in November?
Well, I slightly overestimated the fabric for that recipe and was left with a beautiful layer cake of Heart's Content fabric by Laundry Basket Quilts for Moda (poor me ;)

Oh what to do with a layer cake of fabric...  How about designing a quilt using Half Square Triangles... ?
And it's probably important to include a little applique and a Redbird...
And how can you pass up a design that affords you bunches of Free Motion Quilting options?
Chevrons and Feathers?
Yes, thank you!
Curved crosshatches, scallops, and a neat new feather block using my newly acquired QP Curve Templates ??  
Eeeek - YES! 
I've always admired curved crosshatching and was excited to try it myself -- I'm addicted... 
I quilted "Chevron with a Twist" on my domestic machine with one layer of Quilter's Dream 100% Wool #dreamwool and using my favorite Aurifil thread!  

I just love Aurifil Mako Cotton 50Wt thread for machine quilting... it rarely breaks, has minimal lint, and is fine, yet strong.  Actually, on this recipe, I used it for the applique, the piecing AND the quilting!!

New to me!!  I can't begin to describe how much fun I had working with the curved templates (acrylic rulers) on my domestic.  

They were designed by Linda Hrcka of The Quilted Pineapple (Linda uses them on her long arm machine and turns quilt tops into masterpieces!!) 

They're called "The QP Curve Templates" and WOW - did they open the door for some neat FMQ designs on "Chevron with a Twist"!  Can you tell I really, really loved working with them?
I have so much to share about the quilting I really can't fit it all in one post.  Let me tell you though, there are a series of posts coming up that include information and Giveaways you won't want to miss!!    I'll share more about the awesome QP Curve Templates then too!!

Right now though, we're going to celebrate this new Moda Bake Shop Recipe and the luscious Aurifil thread I used throughout the process.  The wonderful and generous team at Aurifil provided not one, but TWO sets of Aurifil thread to share with YOU!!   

The first set of thread includes 12 large spools of 40 Wt Mako Cotton thread put together especially for the Operation Homefront - Quilted in Honor initiative.  What a beautiful collection of threads and for a wonderful cause.  Learn more here.

    WOW WOW! This Chevron with a Twist is stunning! Your quilting rocks. Cross hatching is awesome isn't it? Such a traditional look, yet it works so well on modern quilts too. This WILL be one pattern I will try for sure!

    When I saw the quilt on my phone feed, I thought oh what s great chevron quilt. It still has a bit of old fashioned charm unlike most chevron quilts. Congrats on the moda bake shop success! I've never used Autifil and would love a chance to win.

    This is absolutely gorgeous! I love it all. You really quilted it on your domestic? I am so impressed. I get easily discouraged to try such difficult looking designs on mine, though I do have a large throat space and a nice area to quilt. I love the quilting. The applique and the piecing work so nice to together. I want to make this. K-

    I love your chevron quilt. I usually don't like the chevron prints , I think because they are all one color or print. But yours is stunning. The varied prints, the quilting and of course my favorite red bird. On my way to moda bake shop next to see how to make it.

    I love Chevron With a Twist for so many reasons: the colours are delicious, the simplicity of the design is elegant, love the negative space because it provides quilting opportunities, love your quilting and most importantly I love the addition of the red birds!     I'm a friend of Wendy Sheppard's & just recently started to follow you too. Just when I think HST are boring, along comes a post such as this one!! Can't wait to do this pattern plus the applique and quilting is beautiful. I use Aurifil thread exclusively now & love it.

    Beautiful - I love how sweet the quilt looks in the soft palette. The applique on a pale background really sets off the rest of the pattern. Great job!

    Karen - I found it - thanks for "straightening me out"! I feel a little "kinship" since my daughter and I go to Owego sometimes when I'm in NY (she lives near Candor and I should mention we visit during summer!) and I love that village (not the cold so much). Anyway, I hope I might be lucky enough to win a try at the Aurifil thread but regardless, I ADORE that quilt. You are a true artist!

    Chevron with a twist is lovely! I am so jazzed about that curved crosshatching and the templates on a domestic machine. I am waiting for one on my machine and it is supposed to ship in March. I don't have any rulers yet, but will get a few to give this a try. Your quilting is just phenomenal! As is everything else!

    Karen ~ The Chevron with a Twist quilt is stunning. I really love the applique added to the quilt and how it's off center. That really makes it look great instead of it being totally centered as so many others are. I like the way you have done that. And as always, your instructions are just so detailed. The ruched flowers are a gorgeous addition.

    I saw this "Recipe" on Moda Bake Shop and immediately saved it. It is amazing! I saved it thinking I might try it with a Charm Pack, making it 1/2-sized.
