Stay tuned for Day 5 of the Blog Hop -- I'll be posting then (sneaky peek below)....
Onto my busy schedule...
As I mentioned in a previous post - I'm so excited to have started "Quilting the Garden" by Blackbird Designs. This most fantastic quilt is made of up of twelve 20 inch applique blocks. My friend Debbie finished the quilt some years ago and is guiding a few of us through the process. Are you interested in the process ? I could share... Here is what I've been up to:
Block 1: Winter Bloom - Making fabric color choices...
Cutting into my stash (ouch -- its one of those things that "hurts so good")....
Stitching, stitching, stitching
Gawking at my results -- my beautiful stash of fabric finally being used. I have been collecting and saving fabrics for this quilt for literally YEARS ! You can see one of my most recent purchases here.

Oh... I mentioned a sneaky peek didn't I? ...
Stop back Friday to see my entry in the Wool Lover Blog Hop!
Until then -- keep a smile on your face and have a wonderful day!
Hugs,
Karen
Oh what a great start to your quilt - love it!!! Sneaky peek of the wool - so cute - love that cardinal - see you Friday!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Raewyn - - I"m so excited about Quilting the Garden -- a dream quilt come true for me. Thanks for stopping by and for the kind comment. Friday is almost here !! See you then.
DeleteGreat appliqué quilt and love the red cardinal.
ReplyDeleteBunny
Hi Bunny -- thanks for stopping by - I just love Quilting the Garden and it's been on my Quilt Bucket List for ages !! So glad you stopped by...see you Friday!
DeleteLove the fabric you are using - must be a fabulous stash! And your applique - so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your process, Karen. I'll be back Friday.
ReplyDeleteHi Angie - I'm so glad you could stop by. Much of the fabric is Moda and many are out of print fabrics by Blackbird Designs or 3 Sisters. I had a great opportunity to get a fat quarter bundle of "Chelsea Boutique" when Carrie from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. was cleaning out and selling her stash -- It was just meant to be (and at a great price $). Kinda hard to cut into it but I'm keeping the end game in mind. I would love to share some of the process that I use - I promise to writeup a tutorial. Thanks again for your kind words. See you Friday !
DeleteIt's going to be a really beautiful quilt. I love the fabric choices and your appliqué is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paula - I'm head over heals for this pattern and these fabrics - makes it sew much fun to just sit and stitch!! Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by.
DeleteWhat beautiful applique Karen and love the little sneak peak! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFreemotion by the River Linky Party Tuesday
Thank you Connie - and thanks for hosting a great Linky Party. Hope you can stop back Friday for the wooly post ;)
DeleteYou have me all excited about your new quilt project. You are having so much fun and you applique work is excellent.
ReplyDeleteThanks BB -- I am sew excited about it too! It's been a long time coming. Gosh it hurts to cut into some of those fabrics but I just keep picturing this beautiful quilt on my bed ;) Thanks for your kind words.
DeleteOh Karen your block is lovely, lovely lovely fabrics there, and yes I used to cringe when I first started fussy cutting, specially when it was right in the middle of the fabric for a flower LOL. I don't need to say have fun as I can see you are. Cheers glenda Australia.
ReplyDeleteGlenda you know how I feel then ? Ha ha... I love using it but.. it's so hard to cut. Isn't it funny that we can get so entangled in our fabric ? I am looking forward to making more progress on this block soon - can't wait for it to all come together. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments.
DeleteHow lovely and isn't it nice to cut into beautiful fabric...and know it's going to appreciated someplace else than the fabric shelf? Love your birdy too :)
ReplyDeleteHi Esther - watching your beautiful quilts be appliqued by so many talented ladies always inspires me to follow my dreams. Right now that dream is underway with this quilt. It is precious to see that fabric cut and stitched down and to see a bloom come to life. Besides, the shelf was getting pretty full (wink). Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. And thanks for continuing to inspire all of us appliquers out here! Hugs, Karen
DeleteMade this quilt several years ago and sleep under it every night! Love the colors you picked. Will return on Friday to see your "bird"
ReplyDeleteMorning Gi... Oh I would LOVE to see a picture of your beautiful quilt. How long did it take for your to make it ? What color fabrics ? I just swoon over this pattern by Blackbird Designs. Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by -- glad that you can swing by again Friday for my Wooly Day.
DeleteWhat gorgeous flowers! They look so intricate!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking up with Needle and Thread Thursday!
:) Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation
Thank you Kelly! I'm having a blast with this block - it's an investment... Hoping to have the whole quilt done in about a year! Thanks for stopping by. Hugs, Karen
DeleteLove your block! What is that form of applique called? Looks like you baste right below the applique line? Is your fabric marked?
ReplyDeleteHi JoEllen, I am making this quilt block with Needle Turn Appliqué. I have a special method that I use but there are many out there. My fabric is marked at the place where it will be turned under with my needle. You make tiny stitches just on the edge of the fabric as you are turning it under. I baste the larger pieces down to avoid getting caught up on pins while I am stitching. I hope to post a tutorial sometime in the month of October. Stay tuned. Thanks for your nice comment and for stopping by. Ps. Be sure to check our my most recent post for a wool giveaway ! Take good care... Karen
DeleteVery pretty basket!
