Appliqué Thursday - Penny Garland ready for quilting

Yippee!!   Penny Garland (modified), a wool applique pattern by Kim Diehl is basted and ready for machine quilting!  You can see more Penny Garland posts here, here and here.

Top is layered and pinned
The wrong side of the applique top -- prior to being layered
My backing fabric - nice tones for using gold toned thread in top and bobbin...
I'm using Hobbs Wool Batting...

I tried something new today... I used a clear plastic as an overlay and test drove quilt designs with a dry erase marker...

Clear plastic overlay -- with one quilting idea

Ahhh -- more quilting trial runs...
It worked swell... but I still couldn't make up my mind...

Right now the plan is to stitch around all of the wool... And then see where my heart takes me from there...

Thanks for stopping by...

Linking up to some awesome Linky Parties -- please check them out on my sidebar -- lots of great projects to see out there !

    1. Awe Angie -- you're making me blush. Thank you. I just loved doing this piece -- can't believe it took me a year though. I'm picking up steam as the fall approaches. Hope things have cooled down for you. Hugs, Karen

    1. Hi Jan, I'm struggling with just the right lighting on this piece -- seems too much lighting just makes the background cotton look washed out. I had a blast making it -- thanks for stopping by. Hugs, Karen

  8. And my first comment didn't get posted for some reason, so let me start over and tell you once again that I adore your blog, the woolies lovelies that you have made, and that Mr. Cardinal is definitely one that I must make too. :D I love working with wool, and the 'look' of it on cotton backgrounds makes my little heart go pitter-pat (well, it does that too on wool backgrounds too LOL). Just love working with it.
